Buy It & Try It
A gun can look right on a screen, tick every box on paper and still feel wrong in your hands. Buy It & Try It is our optional programme that lets you shoot a new firearm and, if it genuinely is not for you, trade it back toward something that is. It removes the one risk that online buying cannot otherwise solve.
How it works
- Add the cover at checkoutEligible firearms show a Buy It & Try It option on the product page. The fee is a small percentage of the firearm price and is shown before you pay. It must be added at the time of purchase and cannot be applied afterwards.
- Complete the transfer as normalNothing about the FFL process changes. Your dealer, your paperwork, your background check.
- Shoot itTake it to the range and use it properly. Run a few hundred rounds through it, try it from a holster or off a bag, and find out whether the fit, the trigger, the recoil and the ergonomics work for you.
- Decide within 30 daysHappy? Do nothing, the cover simply expires. Not happy? Contact us within 30 days of the transfer date and we issue a return authorisation.
- Send it back through a dealerThe firearm returns to us via a licensed dealer, which is how any transfer to a retailer must happen. We supply the shipping label and instructions.
- Receive your creditOnce we receive and inspect it, we issue store credit for the purchase price of the firearm, and you put it toward whatever you should have bought in the first place.
What you get back
| Element | Refunded as store credit |
|---|---|
| Firearm purchase price | Yes, in full |
| Buy It & Try It fee | No, this is the cost of the cover |
| Original shipping | No |
| Your dealer transfer fees, both directions | No, these are paid to your dealer, not to us |
| Ammunition you fired | No, and we would be worried if you expected it |
Credit is issued to your account within three business days of inspection, never expires, and can be combined with any promotion running at the time.
Condition requirements
The programme exists for firearms that were used properly and simply did not suit you. To qualify, the firearm must be returned:
- Complete, with every magazine, tool, lock, case, manual and accessory it arrived with.
- Clean and free of rust, pitting or neglect. Normal range wear is expected and accepted.
- Unmodified, or restored to factory configuration with all original parts included. Aftermarket triggers, sights, stocks and cerakote finishes are not restorable and end eligibility.
- Undamaged. Drops, impacts, damaged threads, buggered screws, a bulged or obstructed barrel, or damage from handloaded or remanufactured ammunition are not covered.
- Within 30 days of the date shown on your dealer transfer paperwork.
What is eligible
Eligible
New handguns, rifles and shotguns from stocked manufacturers, where the option appears on the product page.
Not eligible
Used and clearance firearms, NFA and Class III items, special orders, custom builds, and anything already discounted below a threshold set on the listing.
One per firearm
The cover applies to the specific firearm on that order. It does not transfer to the replacement, though you may add fresh cover to the replacement if it qualifies.
Honest advice about using it
The programme is worth buying when you are choosing between two guns you cannot handle in person, when you are new and unsure how a calibre or grip size will suit you, or when a firearm is expensive enough that a mistake would sting. It is not worth buying if you already own the model, if you have shot it at a range, or if you are certain. We would rather you skip the fee than pay for cover you do not need, and our sales team will tell you exactly that if you ask.
Questions
Is this a refund or a credit?
Store credit. Cash refunds are not available under this programme, because the firearm comes back to us as a used item with a real drop in value that the fee is designed to offset.
Can I swap for something cheaper?
Yes. The remaining balance stays on your account as credit for next time.
What if I cleaned it badly and there is a scratch?
Honest range wear is fine. We are looking for neglect and damage, not evidence that a gun was used.
Does the manufacturer warranty still apply if I keep it?
Yes, entirely unaffected.
Can I add the cover after my firearm arrives?
No. It must be purchased with the firearm, which is the only way the pricing works.
Not sure whether to add it?
Tell us which firearm you are considering and what you plan to do with it, and we will give you a straight recommendation either way.
Ask before you buyBrowse eligible firearmsBuy It & Try It is an optional service offered by Range Ready Supply. It is not insurance and it does not replace the manufacturer warranty or your statutory rights. Full terms are those set out on this page at the time of purchase.
