Financing Options

Paying over time

There are two ways to spread the cost of a purchase here: our own layaway, which is free and involves no borrowing, and third-party point-of-sale financing, which lets you take the item now and repay a lender over time. They suit different situations, and the honest comparison is below.

Layaway or financing

LayawayThird-party financing
When you receive the itemAfter the final paymentStraight away
Cost of using itNone. No interest, no feesInterest or fees set by the lender
Credit checkNoYes, usually a soft check to apply
Credit reportingNoUsually yes, including missed payments
Who you oweNobody. You are paying in advanceThe lender, under their agreement
If you cannot continueRefund less a 10% cancellation feeContractual obligation continues

If you can wait for the item, layaway is almost always the better financial choice, and we will say so even though financing pays us the same either way.

How third-party financing works

  1. Apply at checkoutChoose the financing option and complete the lender application. It takes a couple of minutes and is decided in real time.
  2. Review the actual termsThe lender shows the amount financed, the payment schedule, the interest rate or fee structure and the total you will repay. Read that total, not the monthly figure. The monthly figure is designed to feel small.
  3. Accept or walk awayYou are under no obligation. Declining costs you nothing and the order can be paid another way.
  4. We ship as normalOnce the lender approves and funds the purchase, your order proceeds exactly like any other, including the dealer transfer for a firearm.
  5. You repay the lenderPayments go to them, not to us. Their customer service handles anything to do with the loan.
Read this part carefully. Any financing agreement is between you and the lender. We do not set the rate, approve applications or control the terms, and we receive no part of the interest. Late or missed payments may harm your credit and add fees. Borrow only what you can comfortably repay.

Questions worth asking before you accept any offer

  • What is the total amount I will repay, including all interest and fees?
  • Is this a fixed rate, or a promotional rate that increases later?
  • If there is a zero-interest period, what happens if a balance remains at the end of it? Some agreements charge deferred interest on the whole original amount, not the remainder.
  • What are the late fees, and is there a penalty for paying it off early?
  • Will this be reported to credit bureaus, and does applying affect my score?

Eligibility and limits

Financing is subject to lender approval, is available to United States residents only, and typically requires you to be 18 or over with a valid bank account. Approval amounts and terms are set by the lender based on their own criteria. Some categories, including certain firearms and NFA items, may be excluded by the lender rather than by us.

Our position, plainly

We offer financing because customers ask for it, and there are perfectly sensible reasons to use it, such as replacing a stolen firearm, buying before a season starts, or spreading a large safe purchase. There are also poor reasons, and buying a firearm you cannot afford is one of them. If the payments would stretch you, the better answer is a less expensive model, our layaway plan, or waiting. That advice will never change based on which option pays us faster.

Not sure which to use?

Tell us the item and the timescale you are working with and we will lay out both options with real numbers.
